This summer, my office is as busy as ever working with our neighbors and friends to beautify, protect and serve District H. I hope you’ll take a moment to learn more about our Go Green Initiative and join us as we embark on our next project.
Thankfully, it looks as if we might be spared the brunt of Tropical Storm Don. Though as the storm enters the Gulf, it serves as an important reminder to always be prepared. The American Red Cross of Greater Houston has produced comprehensive guide to preparing for a potential hurricane.

HFD and Council Member Team Up to ‘Alarm Houston’
This month the Houston Fire Department and Council Member Gonzalez teamed up with over 30 volunteers to talk with Northeast Houston residents about fire safety. Volunteers installed free smoke detectors in over 100 homes and provided emergency preparedness information to over 500 families. A special thank you goes out to the La Luz del Mundo Church and community leaders from La Bonita Civic Club, Northside BOND, and Independence Heights for their participation. White Oak Drive Construction Notice
Construction work to repair the White Oak Drive slope failure started earlier this month and is slated to be complete by December. The District H Office has been working hard to ensure that this project takes place and are happy that the repair work is underway. The areas effected are between Houston Ave. and the I-45 service road along Little White Oak Bayou. Learn More »
Houston Public Library Announces New Service Hours
Effective Monday, August 8, 2011, the Houston Public Library will implement new service hours at most library locations. One notable change for library customers is the reinstatement of Saturday hours at 16 neighborhood libraries. Learn More »
