Al Martinez, Sr. has made his living as a real estate and insurance broker for almost 50 years, and has been the Precinct 206 judge for over 30 years. He is also the recipient of the Bronze Star, serving in the Korean War as a Marine. I’m proud to call Al my friend.
Al graduated from Sam Houston High and is a proud UH Cougar Grad. He has been a community leader for his entire adult life. Al has a history of taking a chance on many political candidates, supporting dedicated leaders like Mickey Leland and Gene Green long before others supporters came around.
Al and his wife Gloria have been married for over half a century and will be celebrating 60 years together in 2012. They have two kids, who are successful in their own right – Al Martinez, Jr. is a PGA golf professional and Roxane is a legal professional and has served as a municipal court judge.
Al was a professional musician during his early years. He was a drummer, playing the Grand Ole Opry , making various records, and even making a movie in the 1960’s set in Chicago. Mr. Martinez is the current president of Club Mexico Bello, the oldest Hispanic social club in Houston.
I am proud to call Al Martinez, Sr. a friend and am thankful for his continued dedication to our community and City.
