Pop Off: City Hall Tree Lighting; EPA Roundtable; Santa Sightings

Eye On Council • December 7, 2011

It was my pleasure to join Mayor Parker, my colleagues, and the many families that came out to City Hall as we celebrated the lighting of the City of Houston Christmas Tree this past Friday. This year’s tree lighting ceremony was highlighted by a performance by American Idol Winner Ruben Studdard and a fantastic fireworks display. This is a great yearly tradition for our City and I commend all involved in the preparations and thank our generous sponsors.

This week I had the opportunity to participate in a round table discussion with EPA Administrator, Lisa P. Jackson, as she visited our City. I stressed to her how important it is that we maintain a high quality of life for our residents. This includes doing our part to maintain our environmental quality and asking our neighbors to do the same. I look forward to continuing to work on maintaining and improving our quality of life in District H and in our City.

Upcoming Events

Christmas is near and Santa has already arrived in District H! My good friend, Old St. Nick is currently making stops throughout our community. Tonight, catch a glimpse of Santa at Proctor Plaza Park from 4:00 to 5:30PM – he will be visiting with children, reading his list and checking it twice. For more information, please contact Laura Thorp in our District H office at 832-393-3003.

This Sunday, December 11, join us at Natural Pawz in the Heights for our 2nd Annual Pet Photos with Santa. Bring your pet and a camera between 2:00 – 4:00PM to 514 W. 19th Street. There is a 5 dollar suggested donation and 100% of the profits go back to BARC, last year we were able to collect over 300 dollars. For more information, please contact Mercedes Sanchez in our District H office at 832-393-3003.
