Every year we arrest around 19,000 people for being intoxicated in our City, not drinking and driving, just being intoxicated. The ‘Detox Center’ concept is used in other cities and could save us a lot of money. This Detox center would give intoxicated people a place to “sleep it off” and provides a point of access for recovery services. It would help us move away from having to jail these individuals. I would be happy to have the Mayor’s continued support as we move forward with this program.
I would like to thank the East Sunset Heights Association for coming out in full force last night; I want to thank Mayor Parker as well for attending. There was a lot of discussion and there were good takeaways and good next steps to address many of the concerns in the community. I would like to note that we did not have any negative comments about Solid Waste; I want to thank Director Hayes who was at the meeting and received positive words from neighbors regarding the quality of service. In particular, I want to acknowledge the employees at the Buchanan Center for their commitment to excellent service in this community.
I want to congratulate once again our Houston Texans on their tremendous victory over the Bengals this past weekend, it was our first playoff game in franchise history and we delivered. As we head to Baltimore for the Divisional Round of the playoffs, I am expecting another big win in what promises to be an exciting game. Once again, go Texans! I am encouraging my District H team to honor the Texans by wearing gear this Friday.
