The City of Houston’s Office of Sustainability helps ensure the quality of our air and water systems, food safety, occupational health, the health of our kids, and animal protection.
The office’s director, Laura Spanjian, and her team have worked closely with city deparments to initiate forward-thinking projects such as the single-stream curb side recycling program and electric vehicle charging stations. What’s more, Houston just received the prestigious title from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as the number one municipal purchaser of green power in Texas!
I had the privilege of joining community and business leaders, mayors, representatives of the EPA, and senior White House officials this week in Washington D.C. for the White House Forum on Sustainable Communities. Each representative shared local models of success from their areas and offered best practice examples to support our shared visions of sustainable growth.
You too can help Houston sustain and improve our environment by following energy saving tips at home, your office, and on the go!
Houston is not only creating cleaner ways to use energy, we’re using less energy. And with your help, we’ll continue to lay the foundation for a sustainable community for our future generations.
