Pop Off: Thanks to Lindale Park; Congratulations Captain Kent; Flood Safety

Eye On Council • July 12, 2012

I would like to thank the members of the Lindale Park Civic Club for putting together another amazing 4th of July Parade in my home neighborhood. The District H team, my family and I had a great time walking on Irvington Boulevard and visiting with friends. I would like to acknowledge Gwyn Guidy, Ed Reyes, Diana Lerma, Jessica Rangel and the many others who dedicated many hours to ensure the parade was a success. We had a great turnout and I want to thank all involved for being part of the celebration of our Nation’s independence.

As many of you know, our good friend, Captain Beda Kent with the Houston Fire Department has been promoted to Assistant Chief. I want to congratulate Chief Kent on her promotion and take this time to thank her for her excellent work as a council liaison and representative of the Houston Fire Department. We are all proud and look forward to continuing to support you. On a personal note, I want to also commend Chief Garrison for his top notch command staff, which is qualified and diverse.

We have seen some much needed rain in our city this month and in typical Houston fashion, it has poured! I want to remind citizens to take extra precaution when driving in hazardous weather conditions. In particular, please do not drive your vehicle into areas where water covers the roadway. Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Remember that just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep a vehicle off the road. For more safety tips go to www.weather.gov or feel free to contact your District H team at 832-393-3003. During these heavy downpours, we must all be thankful that the citizens of our city supported Rebuild Houston. As we move forward, our infrastructure will be improved and be able to sustain these weather conditions.
