Every day local companies are stepping up to make a difference in the quality of life for Houston residents. I would like to commend ‘Excargo Services’ today, they are a hauling company that transports cargo from the Port of Houston to warehouses and rail facilities. They have recently made a commitment to upgrading their fleet and are encouraging drivers to participate in HGAC’s financial assistance program. Thanks to this effort, over 50% of their trucks have switched over to more modern technology which almost doubles fuels economy and drastically cuts emissions. This is good for the driver’s pocketbooks, for the local economy, and for the Houstonians who have even cleaner air. To find out more about Excargo Services, visit their website at www.excargo.com.
The Children’s Museum of Houston is hosting free vaccinations for children under 18 every Thursday from 5-7PM starting on August 2nd and going through August 30th. This is possible thanks to Texas Children’s Hospital’s SuperKids Mobile Clinic and to qualify; parents only need to bring their child’s immunization records. This is a great opportunity to make sure our children are up to date on their shots and to spend some quality family time at the wonderful Children’s Museum. Finally, I’d like to extend a special welcome and thank you to two very special young people in the audience today. Walter Dobbins and Shaunice Hawkins are both High School students completing a special summer internship in the District H office. They are already community leaders in the District and I am proud of their interest in local government and ways to improve quality of life in our city. Walter and Shaunice are both bright young leaders and I wish them continued success.
