Congressman Gene Green welcomes media, students and parents to an informational seminar on the newly established Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program for students through the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The seminar will be held on Tuesday, October 30 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Milby High School.
In June 2012, the Department of Homeland Security announced the DACA initiative which specifies that qualifying young people who were brought to the United States as children and do not present a risk to national security or public safety could request consideration for relief from removal proceedings for a period of two years, subject to renewal.
“The majority of the American people, including in our district, support fair-minded and common-sense immigration policy that protects our country, helps our nation’s economy, and allows students who have been raised in our nation and gone through our education system to contribute to the country they love,” said Congressman Green. “Since this is a brand new process, we’ve had a lot of inquiries from constituents so we decided to put on a seminar to help clarify the details.”
WHAT: An informational seminar about the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program for students. The seminar will cover on topics such as who qualifies, what documents are needed to file for the petition, and what to expect from the process.
WHEN: Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
WHERE: Milby High School, 1601 Broadway Street, Houston, Texas 77012
