On Monday, we celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe here in District H. Our Lady of Guadalupe or a “Lady from Heaven” first appeared in 1531 outside of what is now Mexico City. Our Lady of Guadalupe spreads a message of love and compassion and an incredible list of miracles, cures and interventions are attributed to Her. It was my pleasure to join Mayor Parker, my colleagues, and the many families that came out to City Hall as we celebrated the lighting of the City of Houston Christmas Tree this past Friday. This year’s tree lighting ceremony was highlighted by a performance by American Idol Winner Ruben Studdard and a fantastic fireworks display. On Saturday we kicked off Purple Lights Nights here at City Hall in recognition of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and as part of AVDA’s Domestic Violence Awareness Campaign.
