The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial will soon be unveiled in our Nation’s capitol. Dr. King once stated that “a right delayed is a right denied” and that is why I encourage all of us to continue to fight to make sure prejudice is eliminated from our society and so no one in our great city faces discrimination or bias. Houston and China

Did you know that one third of Houston jobs are connected to international trade?

I recently had a very exciting opportunity to travel to China on a trade mission and serve as an ambassador for Houston. It was an incredible journey to five cities Beijing, Jinan, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

The purpose of the trip was to foster greater cooperation between Houston and China. We hope to expand opportunities for trade and to attract more international businesses to the Houston region. Continue Reading »

We have been busy at City Hall reviewing and balancing the budget for the upcoming Fiscal Year 2011-2012. This has been a difficult process working to streamline expenses, but I believe in the end the City will be much more responsible in working within our means.

The emphasis at City Hall has been the Redistricting process. There will be two more public sessions scheduled this Wednesday at 9:00 am and again at 7:00 pm. This is an opportunity to address the Mayor and City Council and provide input on redistricting. The final boundaries will be presented to City Council on May 11. Continue Reading »
